With Winter just around the corner, you should already be creating a home maintenance checklist to give yourself a peace of mind before the snow hits the ground. Gutters need to be cleaned regularly in order to do its job and keep the water flowing nicely. Here’s what to checkup before Winter arrives.
Clear gutters of debris. Although it may require a lot of work, you should spend more time cleaning out the leaves, debris, and gunk. Neglecting your gutters will eventually cause a clog in your foundation and cause the water to back up in the downspouts and damage your roofs and siding. Pay attention to corners and junctions as they are likeliest to build up debris.
Inspect seams and anchors. When it comes to inspecting your gutters, you want to make sure that no gaps or leaks are found and is firmly attached to the house. This task may require a professional to take a look as they will know where the common problem usually lies.
Check downspouts and diverters. Make sure your downspouts and diverters are driving the water flow away from the house and do not pool. If this is not structured properly it can cause the water to redirect areas you do not want such as the basement or other areas.
